String Tensions

The formula for string tension is very simple

Lower tension = more power, higher tension = more control.

To explain this , think of the strings as a trampoline bed.

If your racquet is strung with a low tension, then the ball or shuttlecock sits longer on the bed and gets "slung" off the strings.

If your racquet is strung tighter, the ball or shuttlecock leaves the strings almost as soon as you make contact , and so with less of a trampoline effect, you have more control.
